Phil Jackson Suggests LeBron James Travels Every Other Time He Touches the Basketball

The Cavaliers may have made a run all the way to the 2015 NBA Finalsthis season, which is obviously way further than the Knicks made it this year. But despite this, Knicks team president Phil Jackson doesn’t sound like he was all that impressed with the way Cleveland and, more specifically, LeBron James went about doing it.

During a recent interview with Bleacher Report, Jackson said that offenses around the NBA have become stagnant in recent years, relying on one or two players to do most of the heavy lifting. It’s why he’s going to continue to move forward with the triangle offense, even though it didn’t prove to be very successful for the Knicks last season.

“I watch LeBron James, for example,” he told BR. “He might [travel] every other time he catches the basketball if he’s off the ball. He catches the ball, moves both his feet. You see it happen all the time. There’s no structure, there’s no discipline, there’s no ‘How do we play this game?’ type of attitude. And it goes all the way through the game. To the point where now guys don’t screen—they push guys off with their hands…It struck me: How can we get so far away from the real truth of what we’re trying to do?”

If you’re a fan of the Knicks—or someone who dislikes the way NBA basketball is played in 2015—the entire Bleacher Report story on Jackson is worth reading. The former coach talks at length about his disdain for today’s NBA offenses and also reveals why he thinks (or maybe it should be “hopes”) the triangle will ultimately prove to be successful for the Knicks.
