Niccolo Porcella Somehow Survived This Insane Surf Wipeout

You may not know Niccolo Porcella, but you’re about to feel very, very sorry for him.

The 27-year-old surfer got the chance to live out his teenage dream last week when he surfed the infamous Tahitian surf break known as Teahupoo.

Porcella had been training for 10 years to take on the powerful wave, known for itsfrighteningly steep shape and razor-sharp reef, according to Surfing Life Magazine.

Unfortunately, his dream turned nightmarish when he caught his seventh wave. We’ll let the moment speak for itself:

Porcella fell off his board mid-wave and was sucked into the massive curling force, which slammed him into the ocean, where the jagged reef was waiting only a few feet below.

I knew that it was time to put all my training to the test,” he told Surfing Life Magazine.

Surprisingly, after Porcella took the beating, he spat out blood, waited out a three-minute headache, then returned to the lineup to surf another wave.

His fall has been nominated for wipeout of the year in the World Surf League’s Big Wave Awards.

“With a lot of training and some heavenly angels, I escaped some serious injury on that wipeout,” Porcella told SurferToday.com.
