For Chicago natives and long time fans of the Bulls and Michael Jordan, the statue of “His Airiness” stands as one of the most well-known monuments in the Windy City. While many might know of the statue, few might know of its official name, “The Spirit.”
Created by Omri Amrany and Julie Rotblatt-Amrany as a commission for the Chicago Bulls, “The Spirit” was erected to commemorate Jordan’s initial retirement in 1993. On the sculpture’s feet, the Air Jordan IX. In tribute to this monument, Jordan Brand is releasing an Air Jordan IX Retro of the same name next week, Saturday, August 22. The shoe features a white base with a “Milita Green” contrast that is used to mimic the hue of the statue. Priced at $190, fans can pick expect to pick these up at select Jordan retailers.
