Black Thought Drops Debut Solo Project ‘Streams of Thought Vol.1’

It’s been a long time coming, but The Roots frontman Black Thought has finally blessed us with a solo project. Produced entirely by 9th Wonderalong with his production outfit Soul Council, the album is just what one might expect from the Philadelphia MC. The EP also boasts features from Rapsody,  KIRBY and Styles P, who joins him on the previously released buzz single “Making A Murderer.” As he mentioned when he first announced the project back in January, and as the volume numbered title implies, the EP is the “first in a series of joints.”

Fans have been hungry for a project from the MC for years, but that desire went into overdrive after his freestyle on Hot 97 went viral late last year. Before that, there had been plenty of false starts in terms of solo projects, including the 2001 album Masterpiece Theatre that was eventually shelved, and 2013 reports of another album, The Talented Mr. Trotter, that would also never materialize. Either way, the wait is over.

It’s likely that the rapper is also still working on another album with The Roots as well, with Questlove previously telling HipHopDX they were 263 recorded songs deep into their upcoming End Game album back in 2017.
