Apple patents watch band with adjustable built-in camera

Companies have tried smartwatches with cameras built into their bands before (hello Galaxy Gear), but the fixed position usually leads to you contorting your wrist to get a good shot — and you can forget about video chats. Apple might have a solution to the problem. The company just received a patent for an Apple Watch band whose built-in camera is designed to be positioned almost any way you like. It looks like one of the company’s loop bands, but includes an extended segment with at least one camera on the end. You’d just have to pull, retract and twist this section to capture your ideal shot.

Researchers Discover Giant Freshwater Aquifer off U.S. East Coast

In a welcome bit of news as water shortages hit major cities worldwide, scientists have discovered an enormous low-salinity aquifer off the U.S. East Coast. The researchers say it could indicate other such aquifers trapped beneath the salty seas in ocean sediments across the planet.

How the ISS recycles its air and water

Storage is hard to come by aboard the International Space Station. Even if a rocket had room to ferry thousands of pounds of water and oxygen to supply a six-month mission, you’d struggle to find anywhere to stash it. So engineers have devised creative ways to squeeze essentials from astronauts’ sweat, urine, and breath. But we’re not at total recovery yet. Right now, the ISS recycles 90 percent of its water—or more than 1,000 gallons annually—and 40 percent of the oxygen astronauts breathe. The rest comes up on resupply missions. NASA will study solar weather in two new missions

Solar winds are no threat to people on Earth, but can pose a danger to astronauts and spacecraft. NASA has selected two new missions that aims to better our understanding of how the Sun drives extreme space weather. The first mission, Polarimeter to Unify the Corona and Heliosphere (or PUNCH) will consist of four suitcase-shaped satellites that will track solar wind as it leaves the sun. The second, Tandem Reconnection and Cusp Electrodynamics Reconnaissance Satellites (or TRACERS) will use two spacecraft to study how magnetic fields around Earth interact with the Sun.

Over 16 Tons of Cocaine Worth $1 Billion Seized at Philadelphia Port

Federal agents conducted a massive drug bust this week, seizing about 16.5 tons of cocaine found aboard a cargo ship at the Packer Avenue Marine Terminal Port in Philadelphia. Law enforcement say the drugs have an estimated street value of more than $1 billion, marking the largest drug seizure in the history of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
