Kevin Durant Suffers Achilles Injury During Game 5 of NBA Finals

Kevin Durant suffered an Achilles injury during Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday night. He will undergo an MRI on Tuesday.

Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers spoke to reporters about it all. “It’s an Achilles injury. I don’t know the extent of it. He’ll have an MRI tomorrow. Prior to coming back, he went through 4 weeks with a medical team. It was thorough,” a tearful Myers said. “He was cleared to play tonight. That was a collaborative decision. I don’t believe there’s anybody to blame, but I understand in this world and if you have to, you can blame me. I run our basketball operations department.”

According to Rachel Nichols, Steve Kerr said, “The doctors told us that [Durant] couldn’t get more hurt by coming back, that he had cleared that hurdle.” She added, “They feel responsible for this situation.”

Ramona Shelburne of ESPN reported late Monday night that, “The Warriors believe Kevin Durant’s MRI on Tuesday will confirm a torn right Achilles’ tendon.”

“I’m hurting deep in the soul right now. I can’t lie but seeing my brothers get this win was like taking a shot of tequila,” Durant wrote.

Durant, who scored 11 points during the game and was returning from a strained right calf, sustained the most recent injury in the second quarter. It was Durant’s first time back in about a month. Many people took to social media to call out Toronto fans who taunted Durant after he fell over.

Despite negativity coming from some, others, including Drake, showed Durant their support IRL and on social media.

The Warriors ended up winning the game 106-105. Game 6 will take place on Thursday, June 13 at Oakland’s Oracle Arena.
