Sarah Baartman was born in 1780, her names were Saartjie or Sawtche or Ssehura which means diminutive form. She was from the Khoikhoi nomadic ethnic group that lived in the eastern region of the Cape Colony in present day South Africa. Sarah was 4 ft 7in tall.
