Suspected explosive devices mailed to the homes of both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have been intercepted by the Secret Service, as CNN reports. The Secret Service says it “has intercepted two suspicious packages addressed to Secret Service protectees.” As the day has progressed, more suspicious packages sent to notable figures have been found, the intended recipients/offices now including Maxine Waters and Kamala Harris. In a classic case of adding insult to injury, workers at the beleaguered Fukushima nuclear power plant have uncovered what appears to be an undetonated bomb dating back to the Second World War.
The physicists who invented the nuclear bomb worked out of Los Alamos in California, but the people who did the dirty work of making the bombs were in Hanford, Washington. Throughout the Cold War, Hanford churned out plutonium for our nuclear arsenal. It was also, conveniently, a place to experiment with radiation.
