O.J. Simpson’s name stayed in the news throughout much of 2016 thanks to FX’s hit show American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson and ESPN’s excellent documentary O.J.: Made in America. Even though Simpson himself remained locked behind bars in Nevada on armed robbery and kidnapping convictions following a September 2007 incident, he was the topic of discussion for many people over the course of the year. And it sounds like Simpson might be on the tip of everyone’s tongue in 2017, too.
With about 7 minutes remaining in the third quarter of the game, it looked like Super Bowl LI was going to be a complete dud. After all of the buildup surrounding the game, the Falcons led 28-3 after a Tevin Coleman touchdown. And they appeared to be cruising towards a victory.
When Alabama took a 14-0 lead at the beginning of the second quarter during the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on Monday night, how many of you thought Clemson was going to be able to come back and make the game competitive, let alone win? Odell Beckham Jr.’s amazing catch against the Dallas Cowboys during his rookie year vaulted him to superstar status and landed him on the cover of Madden 16. Former college and NFL head coach Dennis “Denny” Green died early Friday morning after suffering complications from cardiac arrest. He was 67. His family confirmed his death in a short statement:
Think that it’s too easy for NFL players to kick extra points and field goals? The league is hoping that technology will up the skill level… not to mention the thrills. The NFL tells the Toronto Sun that it plans to conduct a study where footballs will have chips inside to track their flights between the goal posts. If too many successful field goals come from wildly off-center kicks, the league may narrow the uprights to make it more challenging. The tests would be limited to the preseason (ESPN sourcesalso mention Thursday-night regular games), but they could start as soon as 2017.
Another damning quote about the sport of football just hit the airwaves — and this time the words were uttered by one of the NFL’s own.
