After Exposing Poaching, Lion Expert Exiled

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1950, Craig Packer is one of the world’s foremost lion experts. In 1978 in Tanzania, he set up the Serengeti Lion Project to study and conserve the park’s lions, serving as its director for 35 years, until his revelations of corruption in the government’s wildlife sector got him barred from entering Tanzania.
