With a team of over 700 visual effects artists and other on-set crew working in studios around the world, the Moving Picture Company produced 1,200 shots for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, including bringing to life—or afterlife—ghostly great white sharks.
Here’s a demo of age reduction VFX and it’s absolutely incredible. I can hardly tell which one is real and which one is getting aged or de-aged (the video on the left is the original footage). You can turn everything into anything you want with special effects, it’s unbelievable.
The VFX in Game of Thrones is consistently great for a TV show, with some scenes rivaling the very best of any visual medium. And this past season’s battle (or massacre) at Hardhome between the White Walkers and wights vs The Night’s Watch and the wildlings might very well be the best we’ve seen. At the very least, it’s the most visually impressive battle scene the series has given us given all the moving parts. Here’s how they made it.
