The Staggering Evolution of Stop-Motion in Film History

Filmmakers have been stop-motion animation for eons, but holy crap man, people have gotten really, really good at it. This video by Vugar Efendi tracks the evolution of stop motion in film starting with The Enchanted Drawing in 1900, which was really just a drawing of a face changing facial expressions, all the way up to the gloriously beautiful Kubo and the Two Strings, which was released this summer.

This is just so much damn fun. Daniel Cloud Campos’ Shiny uses clothes and stop-motion animation to stitch together an action movie of sorts with a fight scene that rivals any fight scene from The Matrix. It’s wacky and wild and clever and totally stylish in all the right ways.

Fun stop-motion video awesomely reveals the wild imagination of a child

This is absolutely one of the coolest and most fun videos I’ve seen in a while mostly because it’s a time machine back to childhood in the 80’s and 90’s. The stop-motion video, directed by Marc Donahue, reveals the imagination of a kid and it’s filled with everything we love coming to life: Back to the Future! Candy! Ghostbusters! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Where the Wild Things Are! Super Mario! And so much more. Imagination is a powerful thing.

It’s a relatively ordinary day in the mixed-continuity of animator Harris Loureiro. Bumblebee and Wheeljack are on a routine patrol when they encounter some Decepticon resistance. They call for backup, and for a while it looks like the Autobots are going to win the day.
