Nike Celebrates Puerto Rican Pride with Air Trainer 1s

The advent of the summer means all manner of boisterous parades through the streets of American towns and cities, not least of which includes New York City, home to some of the loudest and the proudest. Near the top of that list is NYC’s passionate Puerto Rican community who take the streets one day every June to express the pride of their heritage and strength of community.

This year, Nike is getting in on the fun with a pair of Air Trainer 1s outfitted just like the Puerto Rican flag. Hearty woven textiles in red and blue dominate the upper, offset by pebbled white leather (perforated on the vamp and quarter). The color matching progresses all the way from the liner to the outsole, hopping between the three tones. An embroidered Puerto Rican flag graces the back heel of each shoe, while a green coquí frog (the unofficial mascot of Puerto Rico) sits on each tongue ready to add its voice to the celebration.

Nike has not made a release date public for this shoe, but the parade is set for June 14, so expect the sneakers to be available around then.
