Jon Jones isn’t going to fight at UFC 187 this weekend because of his recent arrest. He’s also not going to fight anytime in the near future because he’s been suspended indefinitely and stripped of his UFC beltby Dana White. And according to Jones’ manager Malki Kawa, Jones might not fight ever again, depending on how his break from MMAgoes.
“It could very well be the last time we’ve seen Jon Jones in the Octagon,” Kawa said earlier today. “I think Jon Jones is gonna focus on Jon Jones. I think he’s gonna take the time to do whatever he’s gotta do. And if it’s the last time we’ve seen him fight, it’s the last time we’ve seen him fight. And I’m OK with that.”
We should add that Kawa didn’t sound like he knew either way whether or not Jones was considering retiring from the UFC. But he did indicate that it’s ultimately going to be up to Jones.
“If he ever doesn’t come back to the sport, it’s because he doesn’t want to come back to the sport,” he said. “If it was because of too much pressure? Could be. If it’s because of the belt? Could be. If it’s because of the competition is too much, it could be. Whatever he decides is the reason why he won’t come back to the sport, it’ll be solely on him…If this is the last time we’ve ever seen him fight and it very well may be, then it’s because of a decision he’s decided to make.”
It’ll be awhile before we know if Jones plans to return to the UFC. But for now, it doesn’t sound like he’s going to be in a rush to make a comeback.
